Some learning books can increase the amount of learning points or memory points you have.

Learning Points are points that can be spent on learning books, which are prefixed by Apprentice Book, Adept Book, Expert Book, and Master Book, and followed by the name of a combat or workmanship skill. However, Learning Points can only be used to increase combat skills. Skills that can be increased include: One-Handed, Two-Handed, Archery, Block, Heavy Armor, Light Armor, Sneak, Psionics, Elementarism, Mentalism, Entropy, and Light Magic. Learning Points are normally earned upon level up, but they can also be acquired through books that appear in the world called "Learning Books" or quest rewards.
