Detailed Walkthrough

The "Merchant".
The ritual.
Aixon, accepting his fate.
The key.
A message from the High Ones.

Finding Jorek

This quest will begin automatically after you accept Tealor's proposal to help in the fight against The Cycle. He says that you need to join The Order formally, and will direct you to where the initiation trial is about to begin. Be sure to stock up on a few Ambrosias before going, as you'll have to walk through the Whisperwood, which is filled with magical mushrooms that raise your Arcane Fever.

When you arrive there, Signet Leader Jorek Bartarr will automatically talk to you and take your package, instructing you to introduce yourself to the other examinees, Calia Sakaresh and Dunwar. Calia seems very receptive and open to your addition, while Dunwar is less than thrilled to have a Pathless become a Keeper.

Journey through the Forest

After talking with your comrades, Jorek will give you a Strange Potion and start walking towards the ritual location. On the way you'll experience a vision, which you can tell Jorek about, but that simply leads to him telling you he doesn't believe in those visions with the same fidelity Tealor Arantheal does.

In the middle of the Whisperwood, you'll encounter a supposed merchant, which makes Jorek suspicious, since no merchant would travel through the Whisperwood. You soon learn that the merchant is infected by the Red Madness. Dunwar, for fear of being attacked, quickly executes the man with Magic, much to Jorek's anger.

After a bit more walking, you'll find the ritual place, where Jorek will confirm the death of the Light-Born by the hands of an unknown traveler, leading to an argument between the party members. He will then tell everyone to drink the Strange Potion, starting with The Prophet. You will automatically drink the potion and fall unconscious.

Strange Place

You'll wake up in an unknown cell, and all your items will be taken away, leaving you with just some Raddled Clothes and a Knife. Aixon, your apparent cellmate, will "greet" you, questioning the fabrics of reality, life and death, and telling you about the suppressor that will only let you out once you abandon your past.

When you approach the broken wall at the front of the cell, it will magically transform into a gate, much to Aixon's surprise, who now tags along with you as you explore the strange location. You'll have to fight several ghostly Seducers, who, according to Aixon, are the "scourges of the Supressor", bent on punishing those who try to escape.

On your way you'll find more holding cells, one which contains the corpse of Daddy. Aixon will continuously tell you that you should've never left the cell in the first place, during the entire journey.

After a while, you'll find your objective: A key on top of a pedestal, which is surrounded by spikes that block your path. Use the chain to the right of the doorway you came through to lower the spikes and grab the key. You'll need to place something else on top of the pedestal to lower the spikes again. You can use one of the various items beneath the pedestal for that, such as the Human Heart or the Empty Wine Bottle. Now, you can unlock the door right ahead with the key you just found.

As you enter the door you just unlocked, you'll see a familiar effect, and the door will turn into a wall, leading you to the same enclosed cell you started at. Aixon will complain once again, saying that you should have never left the cell in the first place. He will remind you that to gain freedom, you must let go of your past.

Aixon, the part of your mind that keeps reminding you of your past and of your regrets, is what binds you to this place. Attack him to let go of your past, and you'll leave the strange location.

Waking Up

You'll wake up on a small room with no one but apparently Jespar. Talk to him and you'll get a message from the High Ones, who will say that you're pathetic, powerless, and not any different from the others before you, and that's why you and everyone else must be burned by The Cleansing.

Now you'll really wake up and find Calia standing by your bed. Dunwar is still sleeping on a bed and Calia is looking outside through a window. She congratulates you for being successful in the trial and informs you that Dunwar has failed and will never wake up. You can talk to her to begin her character quest, Two Souls, Part I. After that, this quest will end and Part of Something Momentous, Part III will begin.

Notes

  • You'll see another vision at the entrance of the forest. You can try to speak with the Leader about this with no result.
  • When you wake up after the trial is over, you can go over a conversation and learn about Calia Sakaresh's origin story.

I learned of two things: The world awaits an event called the "Cleansing" in which a whole civilization - ours - will disappear without a trace if we won't stop it. Also it seems that I am a "Messenger" - people who play a decisive role in the fight against the Cleansing. That is why Arantheal wants me to - formally - join the Order by taking the same examination which novices of the Order have to take. I have to meet Signet Leader Jorek Bartarr at the border of the Heartland.

I awoke in some sort of prison. Aixon, a fellow prisoner spoke of an oppressor who will only let us go after we let go of all hope. Regardless of whether that is true or not, I have to find a way to leave our cell.

Everything I did was pointless - I tried to leave the prison together with Aixon but there is no way out. Just what binds me to this place?
