Taranor Coarek is the leader of The Free People of Nehrim and the primary human antagonist of Enderal. He sees religiosity as the primary factor stopping humanity from trascending to the next level of evolution, and as such, fights against The Holy Order.

Motivation

Although he fought alongside Narathzul Arantheal, Taranor's views are much more anti-religion than Narathzul's. He is extremely opposed to anything regarding religion, and is willing to impose his views on others by force, going so far as to order the extermination of every Endralean on sight.

Taranor knows about The Cycle and the High Ones, but unlike Grandmaster Tealor Arantheal, he sees The Cleansing as the next step of human evolution, humanity transcending to the next level. According to him, however, the only thing stopping The Cleansing from happening is religiosity, people clinging to the already-dead Light-Born. As such, he opposes and actively fights against The Holy Order's efforts to reconstruct and light the Beacon.

Whether his opposition of The Order lead him to align with The High Ones, or vice-versa, remains unclear.

Actions

Template:Spoiler After winning the civil war in Nehrim, Taranor turned his eyes to Enderal, where he sought to stop The Order's efforts against The High Ones. He silently invaded Enderal, setting camp in Halfmoon Isle, where he captured Jespar Dal'Varek and The Prophet. Using their Silver Plates, he declared war on Enderal after Tealor refused to stop rebuilding the Beacon. Using insider information granted by Yuslan Sha'Rim and Signet Leader Jorek Bartarr, he disguised his naval fleet and managed to launch a surprise attack on Ark, which was mitigated by the efforts of The Prophet and Grandmaster Tealor Arantheal.

After a failed invasion of Ark, Taranor intensified his actions, establishing camps in Enderal and ordering any Endralean to be killed on sight, military or not. He didn't have to wait long, however, as he was contacted by Natara Dal'Veram, who offered to give him Ark in exchange for peace. After the gates were opened, he betrayed her, slaughtering everyone inside, including the Truchessa. This attack ultimately caused the triggering of The Cleansing, in a desperate act by the Grandmaster.
