Handicraft (often miss-pronounced "Handcraft") in Enderal works like Smithing in Sykrim - An Anvil or Forge can be used to craft items using materials, such as Ingots and Leather Strips, though most items also require Blueprints and Spare Parts as well. It is also not uncommon to require multiple different Ingots. Higher levels of Handicraft are required to craft better equipment, indicated in the name of most Blueprints.

A Grindstone can be used with some material to improve the damage of weapons. The increase in damage is relative to the level of Handicraft. The same applies to the Workbench, which upgrades the Armor Rating and Value of Armor and some Apparel and some other gear in the same way, improving with Handicraft as well. Note that if an item has no Armor Rating, only the Value will be improved. Note that one must have the Memory Phasmalist Memory Arcane Smith to improve Enchanted Items. It would be wise to improve an item with the Workbench/Grindstone prior to Enchanting in the early game.

A Tanning Rack can be used to break down furs and Pelts into Leather, Firm Leather, Leather Strips, and other materials. It also functions similarly to the Forge/Anvil, generally for light/non-metal armor. So this is where you will craft your Firm Leather Boots, for example.

A Smelter has two functions in Enderal. It's first function is mostly identical to Skyrim - to smelt down any two Ores into an Ingot. Note that unlike Skyrim, Iron takes two ores, and steel is the exception to requiring two of the same ore; taking one Iron Ore and one Corundum Ore. The second function allows for the conversion of Weapons and Armor into materials, usually Ingots. With the Phasmalist Memory Arcane Disassembling, one can disassemble Enchanted Items.

Blueprints

In order to craft most items, one requires the blueprint to be either in their inventory, or in their Blueprint Collection. They must also meet the Handicraft Skill requirement dictated by the Blueprints Name to craft the item. If the Blueprint has no Handicraft Skill Level in it's name, it does not require any Skill level. The required Handicraft Skill level is accepted after bonuses and boosts are applied.

Acquiring blueprints is typically done by scavenging them from locations in the world; in camps, dungeons, ruins, etc. They can be lain out on tables, looted from some enemies, or found in chests. On some occasions, Blueprints can be purchased.

Some gear can only be acquired through Blueprints and Handicraft. This is the case for some gear considered High-Tier, Late-Game, etc. This includes Armor Sets, such as the Venturer Set, the Heavenstormer (A.K.A Skybreaker) Set, and the Inodan Set, though some pieces (Hands and Chest) of the Inodan set can be found.

Boosting Handicraft Skill

There are several methods of boosting the Handicraft skill, including Equipment, Potions and Memories. Note that a % Strength Boost does not increase the Handicraft Skill, but rather the Damage or Armor Rating increase itself.

  • Half-Arazealeans start with a bonus of 4 points to Handicraft.
  • The Claws of the Fallen increase handicraft by 3 points. They can not be Disenchanted.
  • The Skaragg Gauntlets increase handicraft by 7 points. They can not be Disenchanted.
  • The Skaragg Shoes increase handicraft by 6 points. They can not be Disenchanted.
  • The Helmet of the Master Smith increases handicraft by 15 points. It can not be Disenchanted.
  • The Ring of the Smith increases handicraft by 12 points. It can not be Disenchanted.
  • Using Alchemy, one can create a Handicraft potion of varying % Strength increase by combining any two of these ingredients (See "Fortify Handicraft").

Omitting crafted potions, any player can gain a total increase of 40 using the available methods above. A Half-Arazealean player can achieve an increase of 44. Considering the base Handicraft of 15, a player need only improve Handicraft by 45 points via Crafting Books to reach 100 Handicraft. This is 41 Crafting Books for A Half-Arazealean.
