Magic Symbols

About

Magic symbols are a collectible item spread throughout the world of Nehrim. There are ninety-nine in total - they are typically found at the end of dungeons and caves, but some are scattered throughout the open world. There is a statistic in the player journal that tracks how many magic symbols have been collected during a playthrough.

Collection Reward

Upon collecting a magic symbol, the player receives experience points (EP) depending on the total found so far:

  • 0 - 9 → 50 EP
  • 10 - 19 → 150 EP*
  • 20 - 29 → 220 EP
  • 30 - 39 → 300 EP
  • 40 - 49 → 400 EP
  • 50 - 59 → 500 EP
  • 60 - 69 → 600 EP
  • 70 - 79 → 680 EP
  • 80 - 89 → 750 EP
  • 90 - 94 → 1000 EP
  • 95 - 99 → 2000 EP
  • 100 → 5000 EP**

*The message given for the 10th through 19th collected symbols erroneously states that the player received 50 EP - but the player still correctly receives 150 EP.

**Since there are only ninety-nine magic symbols placed in the game (the 100th was removed in error), this reward cannot actually be obtained legitimately without a patch (see Magic Symbols removed from the game, below).

1 Aldlefd Inside the ruin, near the dead corpse, in plain sight.
2 Fortress of Aman Within a tipped over barrel in the Cross Hall.
3 Baldur Heights Chapel Inside the chapel, in the hand of the statue on the destroyed shrine.
4 Behmal Graves Behind a latticed door (easy lock) next to a stone coffin.
5 Castle Ledur In the Keep, in the fireplace.
6 Caves Of Urdiliar On a platform in the main room, in plain sight.
7 Countess Sapho's Tower In an alcove in the wall at the top of one of the tall staircases - it is easier to spot if you are going down. Can be reached by jumping onto the railing.
8 Dragmore Ruins At the end of the ruin near the portal.
9 Elemental Forge of Beldur Leaning next to a stone altar in the shortcut room after killing the final boss.
10 Erod Watch On the lowest level, next to the Shrine.
11 Erothin, Sewers, Southern Out Flow On a barrel next to a room with two ghouls.
12 Faldrin Fortress In one of the rooms at the bottom of the keep, past the water. It is sitting in the rubble in plain sight, and guarded by a demon.
13 Fetheran Cave In a room with the boss. Is easy to miss, as it's leaning on the other side of a coffin.
14 Flooded Cave Near a skeleton in the room at the end of the cave
15 Fort Sildren In one of the main hall rooms on a shelf.
16 Fortress of Mandorn On a bed next to the final boss.
17 Giliad, Spider Cave In the final room of the cave. The room has cocoons in the center and a chest.
18 Iselas Ruins Sitting next to some coffins in the large center room of the ruins. Check the map on the Iselas Ruins page for an exact location.
19 Mana Crypt Tesa On the stone altar next to the final boss.
20 Mine of Duran In a locked tunnel near the end of the mine.
21 Old Border Watch Behind the statue in the room with the chest.
22 Old Crypt, Old Farnfeld Cemetery On the first level (the Upper Level) in the northwest-most room of the four open air sealed crypts, in plain sight.
23 Old Mining Site On the shelf in the last room.
24 Old Pit, Shaft Leaning on a tipped-over chair in the the room with all the furniture.
25 Poor People's Last Home On the floor next to a cuirass and some magic books.
26 Ruins of Aranthos In a brazier in the large room in the first level.
27 Ruins of Armonar Hanging on a spiked grate in plain sight in the second level.
28 Ruins of Astardoth In the round tower on the top ledge Only accessible via the shortcut after the final boss.
29 Ruins of Aureal On a stone altar in the first level.
30 Ruins of Aureal In the second level, on a stand in the corner of the hidden room (the hidden room can be accessed by swimming through a cave at the bottom of the ravine in the main room).
31 Ruins of Raljien In the second level, in the room before the boss, sitting on a log.
32 Shadow Song Mine In a hallway in the fourth area (during the main quest Shadow and Light).
33 Shadow Song Mine In plain sight in the sixth level (during the main quest Under Siege).
34 Showground Sewers In plain sight, next to the pressure plate inside the canals.
35 Steel Rail Mine On a hanging platform near the large ramp in the third level (during the side quest The Cry from the Deep).
36 Stranded Ship On the first level, next to some barrels.
36 Thoian's Hideout Underwater in the flooded hallway.
38 Vault of Telredar In the final boss room, next to a big chest on top of the ridge.
39 Zardoth Cave In the room with the final boss.

52 Nehrim:Erothin, Nehrim:Waterfront Leaning against the rail of a ship propped up on the beach; it can be seen from the end of the pier. The symbol can be reached by climbing the hills behind the buildings next to the boat, climbing onto the roof and jumping across to the boat.

54 Nehrim:Erothin, Fortress Plaza In a small pond located behind some bushes that are under the stairways.
55 Nehrim:Ledur In the burned out village of Ledur, in one of the building husks. It's on the second floor, which can be reached via a short catwalk made of planks.
56 Nehrim:Mine at the Collapsed Pass to the Southrealm On the scaffolding platform directly above the entrance to the mine. Can be reached by climbing the rocks to the right of the entrance.
57 Nehrim:Mist Tower In a small tunnel south of the entrance.
58 Nehrim:Refugees' Boat from Arktwend Next to a chest on the boat.
59 Nehrim:Tomb of the Treasury In the small tower guarded by an Acolyte, southwest of the graves (accessible at the end of the side quest Nehrim:Traces).

78 North Wall - The Nautilus Docks In an alcove between the wall and a rocky outcropping, on land on the west side of the break at the North Wall. There are spiderwebs partially covering the entrance.
79 Kobold Camp (Mahrnitz) The symbol is just sitting in the middle of the camp. The camp is north of Nehrim:Mahrnitz, along the cliff wall.
