Detailed Walkthrough
Finding Jespar
After the meeting with Lexil, you find out that the instruments needed to power The Beacon are called the Black Stones, and one of them was supposedly in the possession of Jespar's family. It is best to ask Jespar himself. Go to where he usually stays - the The Dancing Nomad tavern in the Foreign Quarters. After looking around you will find out that he is nowhere to be seen. Talk to the Inkeeper Ulfur Featherdance to obtain information about your friend. The innkeeper will tell you that he hasn't seen Jespar, however, he did receive a package meant for your friend. Inside of it, you will find a map, with three marked locations around Ark. Since Jespar is not here, it is up to you to follow those clues. The first clue is located just south of Ark. It is map-marked, so you shouldn't have any problems locating it. Enter the Sewer Exit and inside you will find a rather gruesome sight - a skeleton, in what appears to be some sort of acidic substance. In front of the victim there is a satchel. Open it and you will find a note:
(In scrawly handwriting) Hereby I, captain Yaanul Ooroi, confess my sins. For decades, I have captured men and women on all of Vyns continents, selling them as cargo to the highest bidder. 462 men, 561 women and 210 children all owe me a life in slavery. I do not remember their names. Now the time of my punishment has come - and I am grateful for the bone judge's verdict. I will hang crucified over a bath of acid, its etching bubbles burning the skin of my body. No one will hear my cries and my death will be a lonely one - no more, and no less than I deserve. Yaanul Ooroi, slaver (In a different handwriting): For my brother in arms: K__c__ k__c__ __'_ _h___? __me _n _l__e_ __ o___ _u _ar_. |
It appears that whoever is responsible for the death of the captain, calls themselves the bone judge. In order to find out more, you must pursue the second hint. Enter the Ark, Sewers (for example from the Foreign Quarters; the entrance is behind the Dancing Nomad) and make your way through the dungeon. There are several enemies so stay cautious. In the room with the three conjured guardians, there is a key on top of the dresser. Take it, and continue on. At the end you will find another victim - a dead woman in a cage, in a room full of spoiled food. Supposedly, she starved to death. Clearly, whoever is responsible for this is a very sadistic person. Take the note on the table and read it:
Hereby I, Elaria Barberdaughter, confess my sins. Yearlong I murdered for money, going by the name of the "black widow". Man or woman, old or young, it made no difference - I was never prosecuted for my crimes, as I always knew how to escape justice. I am a despicable creature, without sense, without compassion; a dead woman living whose very existence is not allowed to be fact. Now the time of my punishment has come - and I am grateful for the bone judge, who carries out my verdict. I will endure in this metal cage, without food or drink, until hunger and thirst consume both body and soul. No one will hear my cries, just as no one heard those souls whose lives I ruined. Elaria Barberdaughter, Murderess (In a different handwriting): For my brother in arms: _no___ _no___ wh___ t_er__ C___ i_ a__n_, i_ _n__ y__ d____ |
Do not try to solve the riddle at the end of these letters, it will be solved automatically. The third hint is a bit further from Ark this time. Go north until you reach a Field near the Mill. Enter the Old Granary. It appears to be infested with rats. There is a note and a key in one of the rooms, take the key, it unlocks the room with the next victim. This time it is a man, who was chained to the ground and eaten alive by rats. There is a note as well:
(The lines were written by a trembling hand) Hereby I, Boreo Oatbash, confess my sins. Driven by my greed, I abducted children from the Undercity for years and locked them up within this cellar. I abused them, tormented them, and eventually sold them to the highest bidder. (Here the font becomes shakier. On the parchment, dried blood is recognizable.) Now the time of my punishment has come - and I thank the bone judge who will carry out the sentence. Enchained, I will be forced to watch as a pack of rats devours me alive. My screams will be heard no more than the ones of those souls whose lives I ruined here. Boreo Oatbash, child trafficker and murderer. (In a different handwriting): For my brother in arms: ____k, ____k, __o_s ____e_ _o__ __ __o___ _f __ly _o_ ___e_ |
After collecting all the notes, head back to Ark. Perhaps Jespar is back from whatever he was doing? Go to the Dancing Nomad once again, but this time, go up the stairs and take the door on the right. That's where Jespar is. Talk to him.
Sympathy points:
After asking him about his troubles:
- Tell me. Maybe I can help you. (+10)
The hideout
After speaking to Jespar you find out that the phrase is a sort of secret code between him and his sister, but he doesn't want to believe that she is the dreaded 'Bone Judge'. He plans to take you to his old estate to prove it. Travel to Duneville, Jespar will be waiting for you outside. Travel together to his old estate northwest of Duneville. Once at the estate, Jespar will start leading you towards the secret entrance. Be ready, as there may be lions hiding in the tall grass. Once you enter Old Shadow Steel Mine you will encounter some lost ones. There will only be three of them so they shouldn't be a problem. Continue following Jespar until you reach a clearing, where he will stop you and say that he wants to meet his sister alone. No matter what you say, he will not allow you to accompany him. Your only choice is to make way through a separate tunnel. The tunnel itself is straightforward, and leads to a thicket where you may safely observe the siblings' encounter.
The confrontation
While eavesdropping on their conversation, you find out that Jespar's sister, Adila, found the BlackStone herself and is now in the posession of the Stone. It seems to have corrupted her mind, but made her a very powerful mage and warrior. She took her new powers as an occasion to avenge her father's, Damean Dal'Varek, death which was caused by Valenzio Doran. It is him who she captured and kills in front of you and Jespar. Jespar tries to make her come to her senses, but is ultimately unsuccessful and she kills him. You must now confront Adila. All of the dialogue choices lead to a fight. Be careful as at long range she uses explosive fireballs which may obscure your vision. At close range she uses two swords. After vanquishing Adila, search her body for the Black Stone and retrieve it. When you attempt to leave the dungeon, the Veiled Woman appears and thankfully resurrects Jespar. You may now check up on him.
Sympathy points:
