Quest Information

NPCs: Calia Sakaresh, Supreme Sister Salvina, Samuel Dal'Galar, Veiled Woman, Lexil Merrâyil

Overview

  • You are going in the Undercity to the Apothecarii's House because they once owned one of the Black Stones you need to power up The Beacon. The Supreme Sister Salvina tells you she has no idea what you're talking about and asks you to leave.
  • While doing so, you meet Calia who tells you that she might have a clue as to where you should search for the Black Stone: the Castle Dal'Galar, the supposed residence of a healer who worked for the apothecarii and decided to leave Ark to focus on his research of a talisman called the "Angel".
  • You meet Calia again at the Frostcliff Tavern and head towards Dal'Galar's castle. On the way, you arrive to the Northwind Mines where you find three dead keepers of the Order. Calia recognizes Brother Gacius and asks you to help kill the wild mage responsible for their deaths: this triggers the quest Retribution.
  • You arrive inside the Castle Dal'Galar and are looking for the Black Stone. While searching for it, you learn more about what happened there and why Dal'Galar chose to isolate himself.
  • Later on, you get attacked by three mercenaries and you get separated from Calia. She loses control of her entity and massacres the mercenaries. You find Calia lying on the ground, unconscious and decide to search for the Black Stone alone. You find it on an altar soon after, and head back to the Frostcliff Tavern.
  • You return to Ark and give the Black Stone to Lexil.

The League of the Apothecarii in the Undercity

After reading the notes from Lexil, you discover that you will need three Black Stones to power The Beacon. The league of the Apothecarii was once in possession of a Black Stone. Their house is located in the Undercity and that's where you're going. After arrriving in their house talk to Supreme Sister Salvina and ask her about the Black Stone. However, she tells you that she doesn't know anything about this and asks you to leave. Just before you do, Calia arrives. She has followed you all the way down here and tells you she might know where to find the Black Stone. She wants to come with you but asks for your promise never to reveal her involvement in the project.

Sympathy points:

  • I promise. (+0)
  • I don't like the secrecy, but alright, I promise. (+5)

Calia now takes you outside of the house to give you more information about her clue. She tells you the story of a healer called Dal'Galar. He worked for the apothecarii but his mindset and healing methods diverged from the League's and he got banned from Ark.

Sympathy points

You tell your opinion on Calia's story:

  • Hm... I can see where the League was coming from. There have to be limits. (-5)
  • That's so typical... He tried to help people, that's what should matter. (+5)

Calia then tells you she had the opportunity to meet one of the few apprentices Dal'Galar took with him. He exiled himself in the Frostcliff Mountains and worked on a project called "the Angel". According to Calia, this could be a talisman that is able to heal anything, even the "demon" inside her. That's why she's coming with you but doesn't want the Order to know about it: Calia wants to use the talisman to cure her before the Order would take it from her.

To the Castle Dal'Galar

With all this information, you head towards the Frostcliff Tavern where Calia awaits you. You can talk to the patrons of the tavern to learn more about Dal'Galars arrival in the region and their opinions about him. Once this is done, time for a walk to Dal'Galar's castle, which stands far in the North. On the way, you will meet nehrimese soldiers who have invaded Enderal, wild mages hiding in a tower, lost ones and marauders.

Keep walking and when the road splits, turn left and you will arrive in the Northwind mines. After killing the lost ones, you find three dead keepers of the Order lying before the entrance of the mine and Calia recognizes one of them as brother Gacius. Read the order on his dead body and you learn that they were sent here to kill a wild mage who has been hiding in the mine and is responsible for the deaths of the keepers. Calia wants to avenge them and asks your help to take down the wild mage: the quest Retribution begins. It only takes a few minutes so it is recommended to do it. Enter the mine, kill the elementals that the mage created and kill him next.

Keep following the path and you arrive in Northwind where more elementals await you. Continue to climb the mountain and you will arrive at Castle Dal'Galar. However, rocks are blocking the way and there's no side entrance. Calia suggests to use powder barrels to make the rocks explode. Go back to Northwind and search for those barrels. Thay are located in a small undergorund shelter in the city. Be careful of the spiders in there. With the barrels in your possession, you can now clear the entrance to the castle.

The castle of Dal'Galar

Just as you enter the outside courtyard, Calia's demon tries to take possession of her but Calia manages to keep herself under control and promises you that there won't be any danger now. In the courtyard, turn to the left and search for a door to enter the castle. You'll find that the doors locked and need to find the key to open them. After speaking with Calia, you have a vision of Samuel Dal'Galar and one of his apprentices speaking about the supplies from Northwind's villagers. After that vision, the dead bodies around you will revive and you'll have to kill them. Once it's done, you can find the key near the wall and you are now able to enter the castle.

Inside the castle

Progress inside to get to the main hall. You are now in front of a big door which is protected by two magic seals that can be unlocked by pronouncing the right words. There is two towers in the castle, one on the right and the other one on the left. You'll have to search for clues in these two places before going further.

  • Right Tower

Climb the stairs and you arrive in what looks like a torture room. When you get close, the dead servants rise, kill them. Try to open the door in the back of the room and you'll have another vision of Samuel Dal'Galar and one of his apprentices. She is worried about her master after some troubling discoveries she made. The key for the door in on one of the tables near the dissection table. In the new room, climb the wooden stairs and you'll enter a crypt. Examine the crystal in the center of the room and yet another vision will trigger. You see Dal'Galar trying to resurrect a dog with the power of the crystal. On a table in the crypt, you'll find a letter : it is addressed to Dal'Galar's wife who stayed in Ark. The healer gives news about their ill daughter who came with him to the Frostcliff Mountains so she could feel better.

Taniysha,

I cannot find words to describe how happy each of your letter make me feel. It is as if the warmth of your fingers would still be attached to them. But do not let me waste time and answer your question :

Our little one is getting better and better. The cool climate is doing her very well, and just a few days after our arrival here she already awoke from her coma. Her cheels are becoming more rosier every day, her breath more powerful. I am sure that during the next Star Summer's Night you will be able to enfold her in your arms.

Further more you wanted to know when you can move here. Heavy-heartedly I have to stave you off another few moons. Your presence here would put Maya's healing into danger, I beg you not to ask for the ''why''. - Believe me, the distance between us hurts me just as much as it hurts you. Miljan told me that he paid for the ''Leoran'' in Ark a whole year accommodation and meals for you. I will write you soon !

In love, Samuel

This is the first password you're looking for: "Taniysha". Talk to Calia to go back in the main hall and enter the password on the first seal.

  • Left Tower

Climb the stairs and enter the dining room. In there, you'll find the creature that seems to resurect the servants. In the next room, you face a magic barrier that you can't get through. As you approach it, another vision triggers: Dal'Galar worked with a Starling to create this magical barrier, as he has something very precious to him locked away. Dal'Galar then proceeds to poison the Starling so nobody knows his secret. Calia asks you what you learned from that vision: the barrier can only be deactivated with a device and a code and you don't have any of the two.

Sympathy points When Calia asks you why Dal'Galar would poison the starling:

  • I'm not sure... probably because he didn't want anyone else but him to know the code. (+0)
  • I'm not sure. But the more I learn about this Dal'Galar, the less I like him... Maybe he wasn't the savior you made him out to be after all. (-5)

Calia picked up a bit of powder earlier as she thought you might need it later on. On the up-right corner of the wall, there is a hole that you can use to destroy the barrier. Calia gives you a scroll of telekinesis to throw a satchel filled with powder on the other side of the wall. Then, use the bow and the fire arrows she provides you to make the satchel explode. You can now follow the stairs and enter the chamber of Dal'Galar's daughter. Check the book on the right side of the bed to get a vision of Dal'Galar tell a story to his child. When talking with Calia about what you saw, you learn that the girl is dead and that Dal'Galar came here to try to resurrect her and lied to his wife. You now have the second password: "Maya", the name of the child. Go back to the main hall and enter the password on the second seal.

  • Library

Deafeat the servants and the lost ones in the room and go upstairs to access the upper level. Cross the library and a steel door will separate you from Calia. It's a trap: someone send mercenaries to track you. They intend to make Calia suffer and you have to find a way to save her. You have 60 seconds to do so. Turn on the left and kill the reanimated servants. Search their dead bodies for a key to open the door that's blocking your way. In the corridor, the ground will collapse and you fall into a desk. You hear the cries of the mercenaries and lose consciousness. After you wake up, follow the crack in the wall and you'll find yourself in the library again with Calia lying on the ground, unscounscious but alive: her entity was unleashed and massacred the mercenaries. You now have to search for the Black Stone alone. Enter the room you couldn't earlier. Once inside, take the stairs on the left to find an other dining room with other servants to kill. Once it's done, you have a vision of Dal'Galar talking to his dead daughter and how he plans to use the Black Stone to resurrect her and make her an "Angel" so she would be able to help people a lot more than he could. Take the key where Dal'Galar was standing and enter his chamber to read an other letter to his wife.

Beloved Taniysha,

I would be lying if I sadi that your last letter didn't hurt me. Is the talk of stable-lads and tomfoolish villagers really more mportant to you than mine ?

Maya is doing well. Believe me, I wouldn't write it if it weren't so. Yes, she is still weak and cannot sta on her legs longer than a few hours, before the exhaustion gets to her - but things are looking up. Furthermore, I was able to test the new elixir sufficiently enough to treat her with it in a good conscience. It will help her to regain new strength, Taniysha, and I ensure you, you will hardly be able to recognize her afterwards.

So, for the last time I ask you : Trust me and be patient. You know, I would do anything for you and hor her. Anything.

In love, Samuel.

Now climb the stairs and you arrive in a room with the Black Stone in the middle of it. As you try to approach it, another spectrum revives the servants around you.

After you killed the servants, interact with the Black Stone and you'll have the last vision: Dal'Galar is using the power of the gem to resurrect his daughter. The process succeeds and Maya wakes up, but not for long. Almost as soon as she stands up, her skin turns black and she tells her father how something is burning her from inside. A blast of energy is released, Dal'Galar dies and Maya loses consciousness. The Veiled Woman appears and you learn that the child in front of you is actually Calia. The demon inside her is the Black Stone. Your vision ends. Pick up the Black Stone. You now have a choice to make: do you tell the truth to Calia? Or do you say that the experiment of Dal'Galar failed and an explosion killed everyone in the castle? This only impacts the dialogue right after.

Return to the Frostcliff Tavern

You wake up with Calia and talk about how she feels after all those events.

Sympathy points Talking about the attack of the mercenaries :

  • Why does it bother you so much ? You gave those bastards what they deserved (+0)
  • I only wish I would have been there in time (+10)
  • Why ? That creature inside you saved your life, whether you like it or not (+0)

Calia now wants to be alone and suggets you go back to Ark to give the Black Stone to Lexil.

Return the Black Stone to Lexil

Head back to the Sun Temple and deliver the Black Stone to Lexil Merrâyil. If this is the last Black Stone which you need to return Black Light, part II will start automatically. If you still need to find one or two Black Stones you also need to complete the following quests: All the Dead Souls and/or A Song in the Silence.
